Fort Collins, Colorado 80526
Presentation: CSU ERC Hydraulics Laboratory Tour
Taylor Hogan, Laboratory Manager
Dr. Christopher I. Thornton, PE, Laboratory Director
Description: The Colorado State University Hydraulics Laboratory has been in operation for decades, running models to evaluate scour, sediment transport, channel stability, inlet capacity, and providing performance data for LID and erosion control technologies. Data analyzed by the lab was directly utilized for the UDFCD/MHFD’s current inlet capacity criteria. While computer modeling has taken on a greater role in hydraulic modeling, CSU’s Hydraulics Lab is still very active. The following models are currently under operation and will be featured in the tour:
- Stepped Spillway – Stilling basin performance in a steep chute, spillway performance and energy dissipation (1:24 scale, 25 ft tall)
- Whitewater Kayak Park Model, Zink Dam in Tulsa, OK – Evaluating “waveshifter” features and safety for recreational water park for surfers and kayaks (1:10 scale, 50 ft wide, 90 ft long)
- NCHRP Contraction Scour – Evaluating long throat contraction scour with varying contraction ratios
- Various performance testing of erosion control products
Food will be provided from Matador Mexican Grill, by catering or food truck, TBD.
Please RSVP to Andrew Fisher by September 4: andrew.fisher@greeleygov.com. Attendance may be capped based on capacity.
